We replace the rear wheel bearing for the Daewoo Nexia ourselves
The quality movement of your Daewoo Nexia car, its convenient operation and safe driving are determined by many factors. The condition of the rear wheel bearings is important. We'll talk about them today.
You will learn how to identify a broken wheel bearing on a Nexia and how to fix it yourself.
Do-it-yourself Daewoo Nexia wheel bearing replacement
When driving a Daewoo Nexia, you can often observe the appearance of a hum; over time, it can intensify, and at increased speeds, a characteristic grinding sound is often heard. As a rule, the cause of such symptoms may be a faulty wheel bearing. If a humming bearing is not replaced in a timely manner, it may become jammed while moving, which is very dangerous and can pose a threat to life. Try to replace it as quickly as possible, at the slightest manifestation of symptoms of a malfunction.
When do you need to change the wheel bearing on a Nexia?
You will have to pay close attention to their lubrication and monitor how these parts work. Since this determines how the wheels rotate, and, accordingly, the reliability of the car.
Usually, after 50,000 km, it is worth thinking about replacing the bearings. This is if you operate your car efficiently and correctly. More often than not you have to do this a little earlier.
Why does the rear wheel bearing fail and need to be replaced? I will tell you in an accessible way.
- water and dirt penetrate through the seals;
- lubricant may be leaking;
- the poor quality of our roads, driving on which is not very beneficial for all parts of the car;
- wear of the axle shaft seating surface;
- the rear hub is worn out, the drum is unbalanced;
- The rear suspension has other problems.
The wheel bearing is located in the rear wheel, namely the hub. Inside, it is attached to a part of your car, such as a brake drum.
The rear hub is made up of two parts: a large roller bearing located on the inside and a small one located on the outside.
Checking which part is broken
Read this article and you will learn how to independently, efficiently, and, guided only by this article, replace the rear wheel bearing for this car brand. You can make diagnostics, change the previous one and install a new bearing.
It goes without saying that in order to begin any repairs, you must know exactly where the breakdown occurred. I'll tell you how to understand that the rear wheel bearing is broken.
- the chassis play can be felt even manually;
- the wheel behind is knocking, very noisy, a strange hum is heard. As you increase your speed, all of these symptoms get worse;
- lubricant flows through the seals;
- the raceways are deformed and you hear
- strong grinding. The separator becomes deformed and the rollers fall out.
Now you know that the breakdown is in this rear wheel bearing assembly.
I’ll also tell you one important detail when replacing. The engine size of your car has absolutely no effect on the progress of the repair. The number of valves can also be eight or sixteen.
We change the bearing. Detailed instructions on how to remove the drum and broken wheel bearings
First of all, you need to remove the car from the brakes and be sure to put chocks on the front wheels. You do all this on a surface without tilting and in good lighting.
1. Raise the car on a jack and remove the rear wheel. The cap protecting the hub nut must also be removed. I would also advise installing a special support under the car to make sure that the car will not move when standing only on a jack.
2. Unscrew the hub nut, pulling out the cotter pin. In theory, if the nut threads are in order, there should be no problems here. But if there is still damage to the thread, use the head.
3.Next comes the removal of the drum and hub, using a screwdriver. The roller cage is pulled out. It is located in the outer wheel bearing.

Required set of tools for repair:
- Jack, wheel chocks;
- Ratchet wrenches and sockets (30, 27, 17);
- Impact screwdriver;
- Pliers;
- Hammer.
Removing the brake drum and dismantling the old wheel bearings
Place the car on a level surface, remove the brakes and place supports under the front chassis.
- Loosen the wheel bolts, then jack up the car.
- Remove the wheel, then remove the wheel nut protective cap.
- We take out the cotter pin of the hub lock nut, which we unscrew. The nut must be unscrewed by hand if the thread is not damaged. Otherwise, we use a 30mm head.
- Now remove the drum along with the hub, use a screwdriver.
- Next, remove the cage with the rollers of the outer hub bearing.
- The hub is attached to the back of the brake disc, remove the rubber seal and the inner element race from it.
- Next, you can disconnect the hub from the drum for ease of pressing out the bearing, or leave the structure assembled. In our case, the repair will be carried out on the hub assembly with the brake flange.
Replace the rear wheel bearing on a Daewoo Nexia yourself
1. The outer part of the bearing, which is larger, must be pressed into place. Use the old clip on top.
2.In a smaller bearing, the inner and outer rings are thoroughly lubricated. I advise you to use lubricants from trusted manufacturers. I include these: the MOBILE brand or LITOL-17.
3.The oil seal is pressed onto the holder that you previously inserted.
4.Next, in order, we mount the external wheel bearing. Head 30 will help with this. Apply lubricant again and place it inside the holder of the outer part.
5. The fastening nut is secured with a cotter pin. The drum and hub are placed on top of the rear axle shaft. These spare parts are installed in such a way that the hub holes and the gaps on the drum match.
6. After making sure that all the holes line up, you tighten the brake drum mounting bolt. Place the cap to protect the hub nut and put the wheel in place.

How to tighten the rear wheel bearing on a Nexia
Difficulty level: 2. Completion time: 1 hour. Sequence of operations:
1. We securely install the car on an inspection hole or overpass (see “Standard operations”).
2. We hang up the rear of the car.
3. Using a large slotted screwdriver or chisel, remove the hub cover.
4. Using pliers, remove the cotter pin from the castle nut.
5. Unscrew the castle nut, remove and clean the lock washer from grease.
6. Install the lock washer by inserting the pin of the washer into the groove of the hub axle.
7. Tighten the castle nut by hand.
8. Turning the wheel alternately in both directions, tighten the castle nut with a force of 25 Nm.
9. Loosen the nut.
10. Tighten the castle nut by hand.
11. Using a thin screwdriver, check the mobility of the lock washer under the nut. Do not use the screwdriver as a lever, pressing the screwdriver against the hub; the washer should move with the force of your hand. If the lock washer does not move, slightly loosen the nut by turning it until the nearest slot aligns with the hole for the cotter pin, and check the washer's movement again.
12. Using a new cotter pin, secure the castle nut.
13. Remove the old grease from the hub cover and fill it with fresh grease (Litol-24).
14. Reinstall the hub cover.
15. Check the smooth rotation of the hub bearing. If the bearing rotates unevenly or noise appears in the bearing when the wheel rotates, then replace the bearing.
Now the adjustment: 1. Without removing the wheel, remove the hub cap. If it cannot be removed while the wheel is standing, then the wheel can be temporarily removed, but then put back on. You can remove it with a blunt chisel, tapping it with a hammer to flare the cap, as if knocking the cap out of its socket. 2. A large nut will be visible on the hub, which, through a large washer, presses the inner race of the bearing, thereby creating the necessary bearing tension. 3. These nuts are fixed with a cotter pin, unlike the VAZ, where the nut is fixed by deforming part of the nut into the groove of the hub axis. 4. Remove the cotter pin. 5. Place a spanner or socket on the nut and begin to slowly tighten until the wheel begins to slow down a LITTLE = A LITTLE SMALL when turning it by hand. 6. Turn the nut in the opposite direction to tightening by 50 - 90 degrees and check that it rotates easily and that there are no backlashes or knocks. If the play remains, tighten the nut again until it slows down slightly and turn it in the opposite direction to a smaller angle. 7. Lock the nut with a cotter pin, fill the cap 2/3 with lithol and drive the cap into the socket with light blows of a hammer along the edges of its circumference, while turning the hanging wheel.
How to adjust new Daewoo Nexia rear wheel bearings yourself
In order for the installed hub bearings to serve you for a long time, they must be adjusted correctly. There is only one adjustment method.
You will need to tighten the nut with a torque wrench. Read here how to make this adjustment.
— after screwing the locknut, it is tightened to the limit;
— move the drum a little in one direction or the other, but do not put on the cotter pin. We do this so that the lubricant lies evenly on the surface;
- using a torque wrench, tighten the nut to 2.5. Turn the drum again and the locknut goes back, up to 180 degrees;
— we re-tighten the locknut also by 2.5. Don't forget to pin it.
The correct adjustment is complete!
What size and bearing number should you choose for your car?
The bearing installation scheme is called “in the spacer”. In accordance with GOST, bearings are marked as follows:
- internal number 6-7006A (in accordance with ISO - L45449/L45410);
- external number 6-7703A (in accordance with ISO - LM11749/LM11710).
The accuracy level is selected number six. Model A for increased load capacity.
I will suggest you a reliable manufacturer of wheel bearings. I consider the Russian Volzhsky bearing plant to be one of these.
Foreign manufacturers are also good. These are brands from Germany: FAG and SWAG. Spare parts from the French manufacturer NTN - SNR have proven themselves well.
A few more tips for performing wheel bearing repairs and how to perform service
1. When removing the drum and shoes, be careful and make sure that the roller bearing does not fly out.
2. It is recommended to replace roller bearings on both sides at the same time.
3. Replace the axle shaft immediately after you notice mechanical defects.
4.Check regularly during vehicle operation for the presence of lubricant and whether lubricant is leaking. Make sure that the bearing assemblies and seals are sealed.
5. If the adjustment is done according to all the rules and properly, the permissible clearance in the axle should be from 0.03 mm to 0.13 mm.
That's all you need to know to repair, replace, adjust and maintain rear wheel hubs for the Daewoo Nexia.

Replacing Daewoo Nexia wheel bearings
Replacing the rear wheel bearing
The design of the bearing unit of the rear wheel hub of the Daewoo Nexia car is shown in Fig. 1:
The hub, into which two single-row roller bearings are pressed, is held on the axle (an axis fixedly mounted on the rear suspension beam) with a nut, the tightening torque of which provides the necessary clearances between the parts (inner and outer races of the bearings), eliminating jamming or excessive runout of the hub and, accordingly , a wheel attached to it. The hub cavity is filled with grease (Litol-24 or similar). To prevent lubricant leakage and dirt from entering, the hub assembly has an oil seal (8).
In the figure, the inner bearing is O, the outer races (rings) of both bearings are numbered “9”, the inner race of the outer bearing is “10”
The procedure for replacing the Daewoo Nexia rear wheel bearing:
Disassembly
Replacing the rear wheel bearing on a Nexia, as a rule, is not difficult, but when inspecting the parts, it is important to pay special attention to the condition of the seats of the inner races of the bearings on the axle. If you notice signs of overheating (caused by the ring turning), change the axle itself, otherwise the new bearings will not last long.
Replacing the front wheel bearing on a Daewoo Nexia
Figure 2 shows an disassembled view of the front wheel suspension device on the Daewoo Nexia. As you can see, dismantling the hub, and therefore the bearing, involves partial disassembly of the front suspension.
This follows from the design feature of this car, which is that the strut with the steering knuckle (56) is a single product. And since the bearing (type HUB1 - double-row ball, with a single outer race) is pressed into the knuckle body (and, in addition, additionally secured with retaining rings (12 and 14)), you have to remove the entire shock absorber strut. In addition, the drive shaft CV joint has a splined connection to the hub.

Replacing the rear wheel bearing of Daewoo Nexia
These were large bearings, put them aside and unfold the small ones. The bearings are the same in purpose, but different in design. This is not a situation where different markings are applied to the same thing.
I didn’t find KOYO in the list of substitutes to at least compare prices. In short, FAG is not the same since there is something different in its box.
However, I need bearings, I have them in my hands, and I went to install them. And before that, since I had already deployed the rear wheel bearings of the Daewoo Nexia, analogues with bearings, I did not deny myself and stuffed green grease into all four bearings. There is an option to determine the malfunction: lubricant leakage from the seals; 4. Grinding and squeaking occurs when the raceways are destroyed, the cage is deformed and the rollers fall out.

Don’t forget to lubricate the new holes with Movil, for example - otherwise they will rot within two years. At the same time, buy 3 nuts for fastening.
Fits perfectly. I bought it because the originals are quite expensive, and having bought a non-original one at the Opel store, I discovered that the new bearings are even worse than my old ones - longitudinal play is unacceptable!
Due to the lack of others, they fit. Note that they do not fit due to the different shape of the cup for the spring. By the way, I forgot to say, the new cups need to be sharpened a little, for example, the rear wheel bearings of the Daewoo Nexia are analogous, since they do not fit into the standard hole.
