Characteristics and analogues of Chevrolet Niva spark plugs.

What do candles do?

As you know, a spark plug supplies a spark to the cylinder to ignite the fuel inside the combustion chamber. The spark plug is exposed to enormous temperatures, which of course does not have a favorable effect on its condition, so neglecting to replace spark plugs is highly discouraged and, if possible, it is advisable to change them before winter for easier starting in cold weather.

A worn-out spark plug can cause a lot of trouble, such as a lot of engine tripping, a number of misfires, loss of power and even an increase in fuel consumption.

In this article you will find the answer to the question of which spark plugs are best suitable for the Lada Niva.

Replacing spark plugs

We remove the spare wheel.
Remove the wire tip from the spark plug.

Using a high 21mm socket (or a spark plug wrench), remove the spark plug.

Screw the spark plug into the threaded hole of the cylinder head...

...first baiting it by hand...

...and then tighten it with a spark plug wrench to the prescribed torque. (Tightening torque of spark plugs: 30.67-39.0 N.m (3.13-3.99 kgf.m)

Requirements for modern spark plugs

What should a candle do?

A spark plug has many important tasks: it must ensure combustion, make a reliable cold start possible, and work uninterruptedly throughout its service life. In addition, it must satisfy many precisely defined requirements.

Breakdown resistance. Modern ignition systems produce high voltages - up to 40,000 volts. They should not lead to breakdowns on the insulator.

Breakdown resistance. During the combustion process, fuel and oils produce soot, oil deposits and ash, which are deposited on the electrodes. These particles conduct electricity under certain thermal conditions. However, a short circuit should not occur across the insulator.

Pressure resistance. Periodically, high pressure arises in the combustion chamber, which must be compensated in front of the spark plugs, without losing seal.

Reliable installation. Ceramics must withstand the tightening forces applied to them during installation.

Flame resistant. The insulator leg protruding into the combustion chamber must withstand heating to red heat, as well as chemical changes occurring in the combustion chamber.

Soot resistance. Particles arising in the fuel, which settle on the insulator leg as carbon deposits, should not change the ignition characteristics.

Temperature resistance. The spark plug, heated during operation, is cooled by the sucked-in air-fuel mixture, which is a thermal shock that the insulator must withstand.

Thermal conductivity. The spark plug must conduct the received heat well and quickly to the cylinder head.

Tact - suction. Gas temperature approx. 100 °C, gas pressure 0.3 - 0.6 Bar

Tact - compression. Gas temperature approx. 300-600 °C, gas pressure 8-15 Bar. The mixture shrinks to a small fraction of its former size.

Tact is work. Gas temperature approx. 2000-3000 OS, gas pressure 30 - 50 Bar. Ignition voltage approx. 40000 Volts. The mixture ignites. The combustible gas performs mechanical work on the piston

Tact - release. Gas temperature approx. 800-1000 °C, gas pressure 1 - 5 Bar. Pushing out unburned hydrocarbon

Spark plug electrodes and materials for their execution

They consist mainly of a nickel alloy with a copper core and show good heat dissipation performance and high corrosion resistance.

Silver has high electrical and thermal conductivity with very high chemical resistance.

High-tech material has very good thermal conductivity and high corrosion resistance

The material used as reinforcement shows good resistance to corrosion and burning. Application areas: single platinum (only the central electrode is reinforced) or double platinum (side and central electrodes). Of the 1.3 billion spark plugs supplied annually to the automotive industry, 1/3 are equipped with electrodes made of precious metals.

Spark plug gap on Niva

The gap between the electrodes on the spark plugs is one of the main indicators that directly affects the operation of this engine part. It must be checked every 20-25 thousand km to ensure proper engine operation. The gap can be adjusted if it is out of the normal range or it is better to replace the spark plugs with new ones.

The normal gap on Niva spark plugs is 1.1-1.2 mm.

DIY replacement instructions

To dismantle, first of all you will need a special key for removing the SZ. First you need to remove the ends of the wires from the spark plugs and clean all contacts from dust. The entire spark plug and the area around it must be thoroughly cleaned to prevent debris from getting into the cylinder.

Next, you need to remove the devices with a key and visually diagnose them for damage. You need to inspect both the electrodes and the threads. If there is noticeable darkening on the NW, it’s okay, but if there is no brownish coating, you should be alarmed. If black plaque is found, it must be removed. It indicates that engine oil has entered the engine cylinder.

Niva's original spark plugs

The Niva is supplied from the factory with domestic spark plugs from the Engel plant, which specializes in the production of automotive spark plugs. The plant installs AU17DVRM brand spark plugs; these plugs have proven themselves well and meet all quality standards and service life.

A large number of analogues of these spark plugs have appeared on the market, which are no worse than factory ones, and sometimes even better. Analogues of candles can be both imported and domestic.

Below is a table of spark plugs suitable for a Niva car from well-known brands such as DENSO, BOSCH and Brisk.

Is it okay that zebin means “gasoline” in English? but from candles with the inscription “GAZ” I would run headlong

I will never believe that a “sliding” spark with a serviceable spark plug (without soot or defects) occurs.. Landsberg’s physics textbook
