Many people ask to share their impressions of Largus and compare them with Logan.
Well, in fact, Largus is a Dacia Logan MCV, i.e. There are not many differences with my Logan and some of them are: novelty, body type and equipment. Here are all the main differences =) I drove all modifications of Logan, from my 1.4 to my friend’s 1.6 16V.

Let's start the comparison with “Novelty”.

It is rightly said that a good car is a new car, this is true.

Largus is very interesting to drive, I was a little confused that the gas pedal is very sensitive, and the brake pedal is not as crazy as on Logans - this is definitely a plus.

The steering is very informative and soft, there are no differences from Logan. The engine is pleasantly responsive, it’s very pleasant to drive, it accelerates briskly.

I was also pleased with the gearbox, it is the same as on the Logans - smooth and soft, the gears shift clearly and it feels like the lever stroke is a little shortened compared to the Logans. It also seemed to me that first gear has become longer, you can not only start in it, but also accelerate.

The Largus's suspension is moderately stiff, it absorbs potholes like "Hurrah!", the car corners perfectly, better than my Logan =)

It seems to me that all my comments are a sign of novelty, and not technical improvements by Russian engineers.

I have a traditional Logan sedan, well, few others drive in Russia. Well, what can you compare here? Largus is huge compared to my Logan =) 7 seats and one lie-down in the trunk =) The station wagon, I thought, would be more clumsy than the sedan, but I didn’t notice a big difference.

My Logan 1.4 is the first generation, it has a basic configuration, i.e. there is nothing in it. Largus 1.6 16V has a luxury package and a similar interior to the second generation Logan, however, the plastic elements of the interior seem to be made in Russia. There is no point in describing what Largus is rich in - it is on the main page of the blog.

Let me summarize: Largus and Logan are similar in many ways, but there are also small pleasant differences. Largus is undoubtedly better than my Logan in all respects! True, in most respects it is similar to any second-generation Logan. Largus is good - this is what I, my dad and many Largus owners say, but Largus is the same Logan =)

Despite the fact that the manufacturer positions the Lada Largus as a completely new and independent model, at its core it represents a slightly modified Renault Logan MCV station wagon, which was popular in many countries around the world, including Russia. Whether such borrowing is bad or good is up to everyone to decide for themselves - some will not like copying other people’s ideas, even if officially permitted, while others will rejoice at the use of time-tested technologies. Considering that the Renault station wagon can still be bought in Russia, it will be interesting to know which is better - Logan or Largus? It is worth remembering that the car produced by VAZ underwent modifications before being put on the production line - many motorists want to find out what it was.

On the run

Since the technical base of the car remained unchanged when production was transferred to Russia, it is simply pointless to compare the main characteristics. However, at the level of subjective sensations, the Lada Largus turns out to be a little faster than the Logan MCV with a similar gasoline engine. The point is not in increasing power, but in a different setting of the gas pedal, which has become more sensitive to weak touches - thanks to this, it was possible to significantly improve the engine’s response to the driver’s commands. Driving the station wagon in a traffic jam has become much easier - the brake pedal has received a slight free play and gradually increasing force, unlike the Logan, in which a sharp deceleration occurs after a light touch.

The gearbox has remained almost unchanged, but the shift drive has undergone significant modifications, as a result of which the lever strokes have been reduced. The convenience of driving in the city has increased, but at the same time the likelihood of errors when choosing the required gear has increased. If we compare the Lada Largus or Renault Logan in terms of driving comfort at low speeds, then the first car definitely looks better in this comparison. The first gear in the Russian station wagon is made longer, which allows you not only to start, but also to move slowly without the strained roar of the engine.

According to the manufacturer's specialists, the steering has also been retuned, although significant differences in most driving modes are not noticeable. Only when driving on very bad roads does the Lada Largus hold the chosen straight trajectory a little better, without causing the driver to flinch from strong vibrations. The suspension became a little stiffer, which reduced comfort, but at the same time it allowed us to achieve a number of advantages:

  • Increase energy intensity, and, accordingly, reliability when driving frequently on bad roads;
  • Increase stability in sharp turns;
  • Reduce wear on the undercarriage when driving at full load.

If we talk about the Largus Cross version, which is distinguished by increased ground clearance, then it represents the ideal Renault Logan that its owners have been trying to get through tuning for many years. Increasing the ground clearance had a positive effect on cross-country ability, as well as protecting the bottom from accidental impacts. At the same time, the car did not handle worse and did not lose stability at high speeds, and fuel costs increased slightly. Another advantage of Largus Cross is the use of impact-resistant plastic body kit, which can withstand heavy loads and does not require high replacement costs.

When choosing a new Logan or Largus based on the comfort of the driver’s seat, you can again make a choice in favor of a Russian car. This is not due to differences in the controls, which are actually absent, but to improved seat upholstery, which reliably holds a person even in sharp turns. In addition, the optimized shape of the front seat cushion in the Lada Largus allows a person of any size to take a comfortable position on a long journey.

It would be more correct to start the comparison with a station wagon from Russia, because this particular car is positioned as an alternative to the “French”.

Exterior and characteristics of Lada Largus and Renault Logan

Initially, the Russian car was modified to take into account the harsh conditions of our winters. In addition, the manufacturer applied special treatment to prevent corrosion of individual elements. The anti-corrosion layer is mainly used on the underbody and wheel arches. The thickness of the coating is approximately 5 mm thicker in comparison with Logan. The anticorrosive layer contains components that increase resistance to sudden temperature changes and the negative effects of various chemical reagents used to treat road surfaces.

Many note a more attractive exterior in comparison with Renault Logan. The paintwork on both cars is of high quality, the paint is resistant to chips, abrasions, etc. The overall dimensions of both of them - the Renault Logan or the Lada Largus - are approximately the same. The French station wagon has a length of 4492 mm, while the Lada Largus has 4470 mm. The width, height and wheelbase of the cars are virtually identical.

Largus has the advantage of protective linings on the arches. Moreover, these elements can be installed even in the basic configuration. Renault Logan does not have this. Largus is protected from gravel and small dust particles by rear pads. Additionally, there is an anti-gravel coating over a large area. The Frenchman cannot boast of this. Renault does not have a rear windshield wiper; Largus already has this useful accessory.

In general, the cars are similar in terms of trunk volume and other parameters, but if we consider the appearance, the domestic station wagon still looks more attractive.

Lada Largus Cross or Renault Duster

What's better? They differ from each other much more than in the case of Logan. Largus is a real station wagon, and Renault Duster in its all-wheel drive version was created as an off-road conqueror. The front-wheel drive version also shows good results on poor road surfaces thanks to its high ground clearance. Many may reasonably note that the Duster cannot be called a full-fledged SUV, but the versatile Largus can also cope with minor off-road conditions thanks to its increased ground clearance. But we are talking about comparing the basic capabilities of cars in everyday use, and not about the potential in exceptional cases.

Security Logan and Grants: differences between systems

Let us remind you that for comparison we present the new or, more accurately, updated Lada Granta, as well as the second generation Renault Logan. The results of safety tests of previous generations and pre-restyling versions are not taken into account.

Renault Logan has several configuration options, but each of them offers a wide list of systems and components that affect active and passive safety. If you want the maximum set, then you need to take the top versions.

Logan cars are equipped with high-quality front and side airbags, three-point seat belts in the front, and a body made of high-strength steel. All this allows you to get a budget, but very safe car, perfect for Russian consumers.

Lada Granta does not have the same high-quality body, which is why it is inferior to its competitor. A certain disadvantage is the fact that the Lada Granta, like other domestic models, does not pass crash tests of the European and international standard, which are Euro NCAP. Because of this, it is difficult to objectively compare the two cars based on these parameters.

Let's be honest, domestic cars have always lagged behind their main competitors in terms of safety indicators. There have been no significant changes or improvements in the case of Granta. Even after restyling. But that doesn't mean it's a completely unusable car. No, it has airbags, a strong frame, collision resistance, various electronic systems, and so on.

Buyers of French cars are offered a choice of units with a power of 82 and 102 hp. AvtoVAZ manufacturers equip the Grant with a wider range of engines, ranging from 82 to 106 hp. This allows the future owner to choose the optimal engine for use in the city or on the highway. Therefore, the buyer first of all needs to compare Renault Logan and Lada Granta according to the resulting power characteristics.

The Granta can be equipped with both a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic transmission. When determining which is better than Logan or Grant, you need to take into account the ease of driving: modern motorists prefer automated gearboxes.

The steering of a French car is more precise and simpler. It does not require unnecessary movements or effort. The basic Granta has a lower quality system, but with a small additional payment the driver will be able to get an amplifier that guarantees safe driving.

Buying an improved Logan will also allow you to become the owner of a modern, reliable car. But its cost will be much higher, and therefore the improved Logan is not available to every motorist.

At an additional cost, both models are equipped with numerous active safety systems and parking sensors. Therefore, it is definitely possible to compare the Lada Grant and Renault Logan in terms of the quality of protection only in more expensive trim levels.

The difference in price for obtaining the arrangement remains important. Some buyers, when determining which is better than Renault Logan or Lada Granta, do not include in the estimated costs the subsequent costs of obtaining insurance, undergoing maintenance and the required replacement of worn parts.

Therefore, a correct assessment of transport capabilities comes from approximate calculations. And the determination of the optimal car is made relative to the obtained numbers.

The French station wagon wins in terms of interior appearance: richer equipment, better quality materials, as well as a multimedia system with a large monitor. The highlight of the Renault Logan MCV is the basic offer, which can be installed for an additional fee:

It should be noted that there is good visibility from the inside, thanks to the voluminous side mirrors. Regarding the dimensions of the luggage compartment, the Frenchman is also in the lead here: 573 liters versus 560 liters for the Russian. In turn, the Lada Largus boasts a more comfortable interior, as well as more space in the rear seats, which will significantly affect the comfort of passengers, especially on long trips. The Lada package also includes alloy wheels, ABS, front airbag and climate control for an extra charge.

A full comparison is impossible to imagine without a detailed examination of the interior. If Logan and Largus are not radically different in this regard, then the situation with Duster is different.

Largus loses both the panel and the console. One gets the impression that AvtoVAZ initially created a commercial vehicle that would serve as a workhorse, and not as a family car. But there are also advantages: the interior capacity of the Lada Largus is greater; it is especially pleasing that there is a lot of space for rear passengers, thanks to which they will feel comfortable on long trips.

Renault Duster interior

If our Largus is similar to Logan in this regard, then there are significant differences from the second “Frenchman”. This may not be too noticeable at first glance, but an experienced car enthusiast will notice the difference. Renault Duster has a small view in the front, but there are no problems with it in the rear. The Largus, on the contrary, has excellent visibility from the front due to the sloping hood, but not so good from the rear, especially if the rear seats are not folded down.

In addition, small side windows, which are covered by the door frame, cause additional inconvenience. In addition, some parts of the windows are practically impossible to clean, which is also a minus. But in terms of seat comfort, the Largus is ahead, here they are soft and comfortable.

The Duster's seats are not as comfortable, which is strange considering its off-road capabilities. Where else if not when driving off-road, seat comfort is a necessity. In terms of plastic properties, Largus again loses to the “French”, which has much better plastic, just look at the dashboard. What engines are on the Lada Largus?

The Largus is equipped with a 1.6-liter engine, which, on the one hand, has established itself as a relatively reliable unit. On the other hand, due to the maximum economy with which it was created, it requires a lot of attention and maintenance. The motors are not quiet and smooth and, despite the same volume, operate differently. We'll tell you which Largus engine is better.

Until 2012, Largus were equipped with engines from Logan: 1.6 liters with a power of 84 or 102 hp. With. With timely replacement of spark plugs, oil with filters and timing belt, French engines run up to 150 thousand km. The belt lasts up to 120 thousand km, and replacing it costs about 4 thousand rubles.

Modern Largus are equipped with Russian 8- or 16-valve engines with a volume of 1.6 liters and a power of 87 or 106 horses. In these engines, special attention should be paid to the condition of the timing belt, which lasts up to 60 thousand km. If it breaks, the valve will bend. In addition, the hydraulic compensators that regulate the valves are not provided in the engine, so this will have to be done at a service center at least every 30 thousand km.

Also, Russian engines have problems with throttle valve failure and frequent failure of certain sensors. In terms of noise and vibration levels, domestic engines are also inferior to French ones.

With foreign engines, French gearboxes were installed in Largus. A five-speed manual transmission lasts up to 200 thousand km, and the clutch lasts about as long as the gearbox itself. A new one will cost 4.5 thousand rubles, and the cost of the box itself starts from 70 thousand rubles. Automatic transmission has never been installed on Largus.

Maintenance costs

Both cars are considered inexpensive to maintain and quite reliable. Therefore, the cost of their maintenance should not be high. True, a domestic car will still cost the owner cheaper. Let's start with the Russian station wagon. Note that the designated car was initially conceived and designed taking into account the severity of the domestic climate. Separately, we note the level of anti-corrosion treatment of body elements. The protective layer on the bottom and in the Largus arches is 5 mm thicker compared to the protection in Logan. The treatment composition includes substances that exhibit increased resistance to temperature fluctuations and the effects of aggressive road reagents.

If we compare, the interior ventilation system in Lada is more efficient, which allows you to heat the interior faster in cold weather. In general, the heating system on both station wagons is quite reliable and does not bother owners with malfunctions. Sometimes you can hear complaints about insufficient fan performance from owners of 7-seater versions of Logan MCV. The situation changes dramatically in favor of the “French” in the summer. What are the differences?

The difference between the cars is that the Lada Largus was initially adapted for use in the harsh Russian climate. First of all, this concerns corrosion resistance - Russian specialists have selected an original composition for anti-corrosion treatment, which much better withstands the effects of low temperatures and aggressive chemicals that are used to treat roads in winter. In addition, all configurations of the Lada Largus received reinforced linings in the wheel arches, while the basic versions of the Renault Logan are not equipped with such devices at all. The rear protection pads have been redesigned to cover areas most sensitive to stone impacts. Compared to the Renault Logan, the Lada Largus has increased the surface area covered with sound insulation and anti-gravel mastic.

Renault cars were originally designed for operation in warmer climates, so the efficiency of their heater cannot be called very high. To speed up the heating of the interior, air ducts were used in the Lada Largus, directed to the second row of seats, and in the seven-seater version - to the third. For the seven-seater Renault Logan, an electric heater installed in the rear of the cabin was offered for some time, but the scheme chosen by AvtoVAZ proved to be much more efficient.

Another difference regarding adaptation to the Russian climate is the mandatory installation of a rear windshield wiper - basic European cars, which most often drive on clean roads, do not have it. The comparison also shows the advantage of the Lada Largus - the volume of the washer reservoir is 5 liters, which allows you to forget for a long time about the need to refuel it, even in very bad weather conditions. Among the convenient innovations, it should be noted that the fuel tank cap is devoid of the traditional Logan lock, which causes a lot of trouble for drivers.

Some disadvantage of the Lada Largus is the reduced range of engines compared to the Renault Logan - the Russian car cannot be ordered with a diesel unit or with a more economical 1.4 petrol engine. However, given the high load capacity of the Russian-made station wagon, as well as the presence of a seven-seat modification, the use of an engine with the highest torque is completely justified. There is no automatic transmission provided for Largus at all, although the new generation of the French station wagon can be ordered with a robotic gearbox.

A solid advantage in comparison with the Renault Logan is the modified interior - Russian stylists were able to perform a real miracle, turning a boring utilitarian car into a classic family station wagon, not inferior in quality to its more expensive analogues. Of course, most of the front panel simply remained unchanged, but the seat and ceiling upholstery, as well as some decorative elements in the Lada Largus were completely transformed. The Cross version looks especially bright with orange inserts on the seats and door panels - if you compare Largus and Logan, the Russian car will attract much more attention in any situation. From the outside, the differences are almost invisible - apart from the inscriptions and logos, the station wagons differ only in the design of the front bumper and radiator grille.

Main Differences

If we start with the Russian station wagon, it should be noted that the car was originally designed for the harsh climate of the country. The anti-corrosion treatment of the body on Largus, which is 5 mm thicker in contrast to its French counterpart, deserves special attention. It includes components that are more resistant to temperature changes, as well as protected from the effects of aggressive chemicals. The Lada also has more efficient airflow, which has a positive effect on the climate inside the cabin, especially in the cold season. The Renault plant installs a reliable electric heating system on the MCV model, however, in the Russian cold it is not always enough, especially in the 7-seater version of the Frenchman.

How does the Cross version differ from the regular one?

The prefix “cross” to a model name almost always means an artificially created illusion of a crossover.
