Dashboard of a VAZ 2114 car

The VAZ 2114 is equipped with a so-called Europanel, which should provide the driver with increased comfort, improved visibility, be informative, ergonomic and have a pleasant appearance. This is its purpose. At one time, the designers did a good job on this panel, and the driver really gets the maximum information and overview. But when the device needs to be removed, the car owner begins to have problems, since the mounting system cannot be called convenient.

Torpedo device

What is a torpedo? In short, this is the dashboard. The word “torpedo” came to us from the West and has now become firmly established in the everyday life of domestic car enthusiasts.

The instrument panels on the VAZ 2113, 2114 and 2115 are almost the same. These are complex collapsible structures made of metal with plastic inserts. In addition, in the panels of this line of VAZ models, engineers actively used polymer film, which covers most of the controls.

Removing the dashboard (instrument panel) on a VAZ 2114

The instrument panel, also known as the “torpedo”, is the most important part of the car’s interior, which largely determines the comfort of both the driver and the front seat passenger.

Torpedo VAZ 2114

There are three key requirements for a “torpedo”:

  1. Functionality - it must include all the necessary control levers, buttons and indicators to monitor the condition of the vehicle;
  2. Ergonomics - all functional elements of the “torpedo” must be placed so that their use is convenient for people of different heights and builds;
  3. Design – by the way the instrument panel is made, you can determine the class of the car. In cheap models, as a rule, developers do not pay due attention to the visual appeal and quality of the materials used, while the distinctive feature of all expensive cars is a beautiful, detailed “torpedo”.

It is worth noting that the designers working on the VAZ 2114 dashboard did their best. The fourteenth “torpedo” is made according to modern European standards. It is made of high-quality wear-resistant plastic, which does not lose its appearance even after several years of using the car, and the “torpedo” design evokes positive emotions even among those who switched to the VAZ 2114 after a foreign car.

The dashboard of the VAZ 2115 and VAZ 2113 cars is in many ways identical to the “torpedo” of the fourteenth, so all the instructions given in this article can be used for the above models.

Step-by-step instructions for disassembly

  1. The first step is to remove the left screen. To do this, you need to unscrew 3 screws, as shown in the photo. Once the fasteners are removed, the left dash screen can be removed.

Now the console can be completely removed if replacement is planned. When performing other repair work, it is recommended to navigate by access to the parts of interest. For example, to access the heater stove, it is enough to remove only the lower part of the dashboard.

Torpedo is the modern name for the dashboard. Initially it was used for foreign cars, but today this name is used by motorists in the CIS countries. The dashboard in the VAZ 2114 car is a collapsible metal structure that contains plastic elements. It also uses polymer film and polymer foam to cover some of the controls. The instrument panel includes many monitoring instruments and controls.

Tip: a great way to decorate the interior of a VAZ 2114 is to reupholster the dashboard with genuine leather or eco-leather. The costs of such an update are minimal, but with proper design you can achieve high results. Also in the VAZ 2114 they practice covering the visor and roof. Tuning can be done independently, but if you don’t have time, you can contact a car workshop.

Removing the dashboard may be necessary if the owner of a VAZ 2114 wants to change the heater radiator or even the entire stove. To get to these parts, you will certainly have to disassemble the dashboard. Depending on the purpose, the analysis may or may not be complete. For example, dismantling a heater core requires only partial removal of some elements. For some body work, it is necessary to remove the dashboard, as the structure may be damaged during repairs. Disassembly of the structure is also required when the motorist decides to increase sound insulation in the car interior - for this it is necessary to seal the wheel arches, hood, doors and dashboard.

Regardless of the number of dismantled parts, the following tools are required to disassemble the dashboard:

  • Several types of screwdrivers (flat and Phillips);
  • A set of keys;
  • Flashlight;
  • An adhesive base, which is required if the panel is planned to be sealed.

COMPONENTS OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL VAZ 2114

Before proceeding to the practical part, it is necessary to understand what the instrument panel of the fourteenth is.

The VAZ 2114 belongs to the second generation Samara line of cars, which the Tolyatti Automobile Plant has been producing since 2004. All cars of this family are equipped with a “torpedo” of the Europanel type, for the development of which foreign designers were involved.

Europanel is distinguished by a high level of ergonomics - all its components are located in a freely accessible area, their use does not complicate the driver’s process of driving. Considerable attention is also paid to the comfort of the front passenger.

Dashboard tuning

The main information element of the VAZ 2114 “torpedo” is the dashboard of sensors and indicators, which is located directly behind the steering wheel.

This panel includes the following elements:

  1. Pointer instruments – tachometer and speedometer. Through the tachometer, the driver receives information about the engine operating mode - the arrow indicates how many revolutions the power unit produces at a given time. The speedometer displays data on the current speed of the fourteenth. The maximum mark on the speedometer is 200 km;
  2. Electronic screens are located at the bottom of the tachometer and speedometer needles: the screen under the speedometer displays the total mileage of the car and mileage data from the last control point, which can be set by the driver himself. The screen under the tachometer shows the time and ambient temperature;
  3. There is a rotation sensor between the dial instruments - when the turn signals are turned on, flashing green arrows are displayed on the dashboard;
  4. In the center of the dashboard there is a “Check Engine” indicator - which lights up when the on-board computer of the fourteenth detects any malfunction in the engine. Next to it is a brake light indicator;
  5. On the left side of the instrument panel there is a fluid temperature sensor in the cooling system of the power unit, on the right side of the panel there is a fuel level sensor in the gas tank. When the engine temperature exceeds a critical value or the tank is empty, orange lights above the sensors light up;
  6. There is also a series of indicators on the dashboard that indicate the following information: oil level, doors not closed, seat belts not fastened, amount of water in the window washer reservoir and brake pad wear.

The VAZ 2114 torpedo also includes the car’s on-board computer screen, which is located in its central part. Using the on-board computer, the driver receives detailed information about the operating modes and problems that arise in the systems and communications of the fourteenth. Also, recommendations on the timing of the next technical inspection are displayed on the BC screen.

In addition to information devices, there are also functional elements on the dashboard: turn signal levers, control buttons for headlights and heater, and window heating system.

The “torpedo” of the fourteenth is not without comfort elements, which are represented by a cigarette lighter, an ashtray, a fairly spacious glove compartment and a niche for storing various small items, located near the gear shift lever.

We remove the dashboard of a VAZ 2114 with our own hands

The need to remove the “torpedo” can arise either quite unexpectedly - due to a breakdown of the stove or radiator, which can only be reached with the panel removed, or as planned - to replace a worn out “torpedo”.

We present to your attention a diagram of the fourteenth dashboard.

Let's look at its components:

  1. The main part of the structure, which, as a rule, is called the “torpedo” - all the auxiliary elements and components of the dashboard are fixed on it;
  2. Overlay for the VAZ 2114 panel, on which the air duct openings are located;
  3. Fixing brackets;
  4. Plugs;
  5. Ashtray;
  6. Right support frame (cross member);
  7. Right shield covering the wiring cable;
  8. Instrument panel VAZ 2114;
  9. Central bracket;
  10. Left wiring panel;
  11. Left support frame.

To do all the work at home we will need the following tools:

  • Flat and Phillips screwdriver;
  • A set of keys;
  • Flashlight;

If the “torpedo” rattles and you plan to glue the panel, you need to stock up on an adhesive base or non-expanding foam for sealing.

If you first study the theory of how to remove the instrument panel on a VAZ 2114, then the whole job will take you no more than 3-5 hours.

And so, let's move on to step-by-step instructions on how to remove a torpedo on a VAZ 2114 with your own hands.

  1. First of all, it is necessary to remove the shields covering the wiring (in the diagram they are indicated by numbers 7 and 10). Let's start from the left. It can be removed quite simply - use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the three fixing screws;
  2. Next, we remove the right shield - the procedure is the same, only there are 2 more screws in it. You must remove the screen carefully, since the plastic can damage the wiring located underneath it;
  3. Before removing the radio, you must remove the negative terminal from the battery. To dismantle the tape recorder, you need to disconnect the wiring block that connects it to the power supply, acoustics and antenna;
  4. Now you need to remove the cigarette lighter and ashtray, do not forget to pull out the light bulb from it;
  5. We take out the stove control knobs. To do this, you need to pick them out with a flat screwdriver or a knife, since the handles are connected to the base by grooves;
  6. We remove the knob for setting the power mode of the stove; to dismantle it you just need to pull it towards you;
  7. On the left and right sides of the instrument panel there are screws with which it is attached to the car interior. Unscrew them with a Phillips screwdriver;

Where to begin

Before starting work, we recommend that you carefully study the dashboard structure. If you understand what and how, then it will be much easier for you to remove the torpedo. If you have already become familiar with the structure of the shield, you can begin work. You should start by dismantling the screens. This is done as follows.

  1. We take a positive screwdriver and carefully remove the three screws that secure the left screen. If you have a tool with a short tip, it is better to use it, it will be more convenient.
  2. We remove the lower part of the lining from the mounting on the body.
  3. We do the same with the screen on the right side. The only difference is that it is fixed with 5 screws. While working, carefully hold the pad with your hand.

Now that all the fasteners have been removed, you can remove the screen. But be careful that it doesn't get caught on the wires underneath it. Otherwise, you may simply break the cables.

Next, you should disconnect the ground from the battery. This is done by disconnecting the pads. If a radio is installed in the car, it must be disconnected from the wiring. If you do not have any audio devices installed, you can simply remove the wires (they are closed with a plug). Then the cigarette lighter and the socket that illuminates the ashtray are turned off.

So, the first stage of work has been completed. You can proceed to the next steps.

Further recommendations are relevant for all models of the Lada Samara-2 line. The components and fastenings of the instrument panel are described in detail in the car's maintenance manual. Study the owner's manual to remember the location and type of fasteners used on your vehicle. The most difficult point is this: in order to remove the instrument cluster, the car enthusiast will have to dismantle the center console. This means removing all plastic covers and controls.

To work, you will need straight and Phillips screwdrivers, as well as a set of open-end wrenches. The most popular is 8 to 10.

The procedure is as follows.

  1. We remove the terminals from the battery and disconnect the ground.
  2. Remove the fasteners for the side trims of the center console on both sides (on the left, on the gas pedal side; on the right, on the passenger’s left foot side). At this stage, it is important not to damage the plastic brackets that hold the panels in place. Therefore, they must be carefully removed from the grooves.
  3. Once the side covers are removed, you need to start disconnecting the wiring. First, turn off the power to the cigarette lighter and its backlight.
  4. We take out the plastic niche for the head unit of the audio system.
  5. We remove the diagnostic hole.
  6. We take out the knob for selecting the rotation mode of the cabin fan.
  7. We minus 4 screws that secure the instrument panel: two at the top and bottom, respectively. Unscrew the screws carefully, constantly holding the instrument panel. Otherwise, you can break the panel and break the wiring. A new device costs from 1,000 rubles in online stores.
  8. We remove the plugs in the upper part of the center console: underneath them there is a fastener hidden that needs to be disconnected in order to remove the decorative element.
  9. The two fasteners at the bottom of the lining are gone.
  10. Now the decorative plastic structure does not interfere at all; it can be pulled out of the cabin.
  11. Disconnect the wiring and relay.
  12. Now the instrument panel is not attached to anything, it can be removed.
