More recently, the AvtoVAZ concern began production of a fundamentally new model, the Lada X-Ray. The model was announced back in 2012. Car enthusiasts were eagerly awaiting the release of the first model from the assembly line.
Of course, skeptics immediately began to evaluate the characteristics and compare the model with its foreign “colleagues”. The Sky Motors car dealership presents the Lada X Ray crossover in comparison with the Lifan X 60, so that the car enthusiast can form his own opinion. By the way, you can sign up for a test drive of both brands after reading the reviews about the Sky Motors car dealership . It is worth noting that the opponent of the Lada X Ray is a Chinese crossover that has been on the Russian market for 3 years.
Getting to know the Chinese crossover
The Chinese auto industry has followed the beaten path. There is no need to invent something new. You just need to pack it well. Buying up technology and having significant gains in both human and natural resources, this country somehow quietly found itself among those in demand among European motorists. Russia was also included in their number.
At the beginning of 2014, the automobile company Lifan Motors demonstrated a new product called Lifan X50. Compact crossovers continue to occupy a serious niche among B-class cars. At MIAS 2014, the Russian public was able to get acquainted with the “raised” hatchback. Now this car is a direct competitor to the Lada Xrey. Like others, it has its pros and cons.
Lada XRAY against competitors: asphalt and dirt
Does Lada XRAY claim to be a crossover? Lada Kalina Cross, Lifan X50 and Renault Sandero Stepway enter the battlefield along with the newcomer.
LADA > XRAY
Lifan > X50
Renault > Sandero
LADA > Kalina
Rivals:
- Lifan X50 - petrol, 1.5 l (103 hp), 5-speed manual, Comfort, RUB 499,900.
- Lada Kalina Cross - petrol, 1.6 l (106 hp), 5-speed robot, Norma, RUB 523,100.
- Lada XRAY - petrol, 1.6 l (114 hp), 5-speed manual, from RUB 589,000.
- Renault Sandero Stepway - petrol, 1.6 l (82 hp), 5-speed manual, Confort, RUB 637,470.
Since 1891, in accordance with the Treaty of Madrid, sparkling wines produced exclusively in the province of the same name in France can be called champagne. Is it a coincidence that this decision was made almost simultaneously with the appearance of the best brand of champagne in the Russian Empire? After all, sparkling wines produced near Lake Abrau were rightfully considered not inferior to French ones, or even superior to them.
History repeats itself! Russian manufacturers again started from the French formula and implemented it in their own way. The recipe is simple: take a regular hatchback, add ground clearance, and decorate it with an all-terrain body kit. A bright color and a new name will also come in handy, preferably with the letter X. Done! Meet the front-wheel drive crossover Lada XRAY, derived from the Renault Sandero Stepway.
- Another native of the Volga region is the Lada Kalina in the Cross all-terrain version, with a 16-valve engine and a robotic gearbox. Well, the Russian bottling will be diluted by the next X-hatchback from China - Lifan X50 (1.5 l, 103 hp).
Fifty Shades of Gray
It all starts with appearance
By placing two cars from different manufacturers next to each other, you can only determine their ownership by individual signs. The same smooth contours with ribbed, rapid protrusions on the sides, the same X-shaped front. In general - a typical SUV. The only thing that makes our car a little begging is its profile. The X50 is more reminiscent of the Lada concept, which was introduced in 2012. Serial X Rey loses somewhat in dynamism. Although it is immediately worth noting the presence of sixteen-inch wheels on the Russian crossover and 15-inch wheels on the Lifan X50. At the same time, the ground clearance of 185 mm looks weaker than our 195.
You can clearly compare the sizes of cars (LADA XRay /Lifan X50) in mm:
- Length – 4165/4100;
- Width –1764/1722;
- Height – 1570/1540;
- Wheelbase – 2592/
The presented characteristics are almost identical and cannot speak of any superiority. As for the exterior, the Chinese installed halogen headlights on their crossover and installed an adjustable sunroof. Both of these segments clearly speak in favor of Lifan.
Lada x rey or lifan x 60 which is better. Which is better X Ray or Duster: an attempt at comparison
Comparative test drive of Lada X-RAY and Lifan X50
It would be completely stupid to hope that the Lada X-RAY hatchback will be much better than the co-platform Renault Sandero Stepway. The opposite is also true - the VAZ team could not build a mediocre car on the completely successful and already proven B0 platform, even if they wanted to. So trying to compare X-RAY and Sandero Stepway is in many ways reminiscent of the old children's game, in which you still need to find ten differences between two seemingly identical pictures. But with the Chinese hatchback Lifan X50, which also claims to be called a compact crossover, and in terms of size and cost it is quite suitable as a competitor to the Lada X-RAY, the situation should be completely different. So we’ll find out how attractive the domestic hatchback looks against the backdrop of the “Chinese” that is gaining popularity in our country.
When looking at the Lifan X50, at least one thing becomes obvious - the time when the design of Chinese cars evoked completely negative emotions is irrevocably gone. Although the appearance of the Chinese hatchback reveals the features of a dozen European models, I somehow don’t want to accuse the designers of the Chinese company of plagiarism. It’s better to admire the Opel-style front end and nice rear lights, which seem to be borrowed from some Alfa Romeo, than to wince in bewilderment at yet another mind-blowing creation by Chinese pencil masters.
The domestic hatchback Lada X-RAY looks no less nice and, unlike the Lifan X50, does not try to copy anyone. We are, of course, not talking about the Renault Sandero Stepway, which shares a common platform with the X-RAY. But even so, the domestic and French hatchbacks, although brothers, are not twins at all. Thanks to the pronounced X-stampings on the sidewalls, our X-RAY simply cannot be confused with any other car. And if you choose the right color, the X-RAY will get rid of some heaviness and really begin to resemble a very small but stylish crossover.
The inner world of X-RAY will not disappoint either. The interior plastic here may be hard, but everything is fitted and assembled in the Lada very well. Largely because of this, inside the domestic hatchback there is no feeling of a budget car. And from an ergonomic point of view, the X-RAY is quite good. The driver's seat in the domestic hatchback, although disappointing with mediocre lateral support and an overly soft cushion, generally distributes the load well. A long journey in it will not seem like torture. There are no special complaints about the instrument cluster - readings from it, if you get used to radial digitization, are read instantly. And in this spirit we can continue ad infinitum, which will only confirm a long-known fact - the X-RAY turned out to be, although not ideal, a truly thoughtful car.
At first glance, the interior of the Lifan X50 seems even more interesting than that of the Lada X-RAY. A stylish three-spoke steering wheel, interesting architecture of the center console, a huge red “saucer” of the tachometer - car enthusiasts with a penchant for everything beautiful will like it here. But after just a couple of hours spent behind the wheel of the Lifan X50, you will understand that not all that glitters is gold. At first, the instrument cluster, which pleases us, turns out to be absolutely inconvenient - the red tachometer needle against the background of the red background is not clearly visible. As a result, it takes an prohibitively long time to read information. It’s fortunate that at least the Chinese hatchback has an electronic speedometer – the large jumping numbers are clearly visible. The inside of the Lifan X50 is also frustrating because its driver's seat is located too high. Petite ladies may even like it, but everyone else will be downright uncomfortable driving a Chinese hatchback. In a word, if the Chinese have already learned how to draw beautifully, then they still have to learn and learn the art of ergonomics. At the same time, it would be nice to focus on the build quality. Even with the naked eye you can see that the X-RAY is better assembled.
The length of the domestic hatchback is several centimeters longer than its competitor, but this does not provide any particular advantage in terms of convenience for rear passengers. Problems will begin when you try to climb into the second row of seats. Due to the very narrow opening between the B-pillar and the seat cushion, this is not so easy to do. And then X-RAY will not receive flattering words from tall passengers. They will have to sit with their knees supporting the back of the front seat. The Lifan X50 also cannot boast of much space in the rear, but there is clearly more legroom here. The Chinese hatchback gets another big plus for the lack of a transmission tunnel, which makes the Lifan X50 again preferable for carrying three passengers in the back. The main thing is that among them there are no those whose height exceeds 180 centimeters. Otherwise, the giants will have to prop up too low a ceiling with their little heads. But the trunk is clearly better in the Lada X-RAY. If in the Lifan X50 its volume is a modest 280 liters, then the X-RAY offers a quite tolerable 360 liters of free space.
The domestic hatchback deals another powerful blow to its Chinese competitor when evaluating the line of power units. If for the Lifan X50 only one engine is offered (1.5 liters, 103 horsepower), then for the Lada X-RAY as many as three power units are already available - 1.6 liters (106 and 110 horsepower) and 1.8 liters (122 “horses”). Fortunately, the Lifan X50 is saved from obvious defeat by the presence of a variator, which can be equipped with the car as an alternative to a manual gearbox. In X-RAY, the domestic “robot” AMT acts as an alternative to “mechanics”. It is, however, available only for the most powerful 122-horsepower version of the hatchback.
If you close your eyes to the quite logical loss of the Lifan X50 in dynamics and focus on the sensation of driving itself, it turns out that both cars are approximately equal. Each of them is managed quite well. Most often, the difference between them is barely noticeable. And off-road, the Lifan X50 and Lada X-RAY are capable of creating a small miracle. Thanks to their excellent cross-country ability and high ground clearance, these front-wheel drive hatchbacks are capable of leaving other true crossovers behind in rough terrain. It’s a pity that the Lifan X50, unlike the Lada X-RAY, in which the engine is covered with a powerful steel shield, does not provide any protection for the engine and transmission.
So the Lifan X50 is cheaper. With the money saved, owners of a Chinese hatchback will not only be able to install much-needed off-road protection, but also improve the car’s very mediocre sound insulation. And then the Lifan X50’s only drawbacks will be its ergonomics and the inability to select a power unit. Lada X-RAY does not have these shortcomings. That’s why the initially higher price tag for it seems completely justified. Unlike the Chinese hatchback, the Lada X-RAY, even without any modifications, is a well-designed and perfectly balanced car.

Lifan X60 or Renault Duster?
Car: Renault Duster. Asked by: Igor Romanovsky. The essence of the question: Lifan X60 or Renault Duster, chain engine or French?
Good afternoon, at the moment I’m choosing between Lifan X60 and Renault Duster, I want to check with knowledgeable people about their brakes? There is no opportunity to test it in person. I think this is a very important aspect in the car. The Lifan has all disc brakes, the Duster has only the front brakes, the rear brakes are drums, but how does this difference feel in practice?
According to the subjective feelings of the driver? Discs have a higher response speed than drums, as far as I know, so I was confused by this point. So I’m more inclined towards Duster, although I like Lifan better in design, he’s a very handsome dog)) But Duster somehow looks more reliable on its own.
They also say that Lifan has a chain engine from Mitsubishi, while Renault has several engines, is this true?
General characteristics
Many of those who want to buy a modern SUV at an affordable price do not know which car to choose. Let's compare Renault Duster and Lifan X60.
The following two tabs change content below.
I own a Renault Megane 2, before that there were Citroens and Peugeots. I work in the service area of a dealership, so I know the car inside and out.

Salon and interior
Here the pride of the domestic automobile industry is clearly on the horse. The plastic of the Russian crossover looks more solid, although the Chinese offer several interior design options. You should immediately pay attention to the seats. X Ray offers a more convenient option, where the body of the driver and passenger is well fixed and is free from possible slipping during rolls. The Chinese model offers simpler chairs. While the back row of our car can confidently accommodate three riders, the manufacturers of the Lifan X50 placed only two headrests in the back, which clearly indicates a small amount of space for rear passengers. The rear row of seats in both cars folds down, which significantly increases the volume of the cargo compartment. The trunk of Lifan holds 280 liters, X-Ray – 376 liters. Unlike the cargo compartment of the LADA XRay, the trunk of the Lifan is equipped with an electromagnetic opening key.
The photo below shows the interior of the Lifan X50:
What made Russian motorists very happy about X-Ray remained unavailable in the Chinese model. The steering column of the Lifan X50 is adjustable only in terms of tilt, while in the domestic crossover it can be freely moved in terms of reach.
The control panel is difficult to compare. On the one hand, everything is the same, on the other, a car from China is simpler. The placement of the dials may cause some inconvenience. Lifan has three of them, just like Lada X Rey. The Chinese decided that the tachometer should be located in the center, which is more typical for sports cars.

Lada Kalina Cross
After the “Chinese”, Kalina gives the impression of a finished product. And it looks bright - thanks to the orange color and the “cross” plastic body kit. The interior has also been refreshed with orange touches.
The seat is softly padded and has a short cushion, but it distributes the load like a human being and allows you to ride for a long time without getting tired. Seat height adjustment is not provided here either, but it is not particularly necessary.
You won't accidentally hit the buttons on the steering wheel - they aren't there. The rim of the steering wheel is a bit thin, but it fits comfortably in your hands, and that’s the main thing. What a review! Huge windows, impressive mirrors and a high seating position allow you to effortlessly control the situation around the car and not fork out for parking sensors.
Engine comparison
As for engines, cars can only be compared in similar versions, since the Chinese high hatchback has one engine: a sixteen-valve, four-cylinder with a volume of 1.5 liters. The engine is capable of developing power up to 103 hp. With. and having a torque of 133 Nm. The engine can be paired with a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT.
X Ray has three engines, two of which are 1.6 liters and one 1.8 liter. The first ones are operated by a five-speed manual transmission. The most powerful unit that can squeeze out 123 hp. With. is equipped with an automatic transmission, the role of which is the “automatic robot” AMT.
In order to have more acceptable conditions for comparing dynamics and fuel consumption, you need to pit X-Ray against the Lifan with a domestic 1.6 liter engine and a power of 107 hp. With. There will be dynamics in both places. Comparison Lada X Ray / Lifan X50:
- Maximum speed – 176/170 km hour;
- Acceleration to 100 km per hour – 11.4/11 s;
- Fuel consumption city – 9.3/l;
- The same on the highway - 5.9/l
- Average - 7.2/6.3 l.
Having looked at these numbers, what can we say about the 110 hp engine? With. and even more so at 123?

Lifan X50
Externally, the Lifan X50 is quite good, although there is a bit of plagiarism: you can feel the motifs of the Opel Mokka crossover in it. It's a pity, the dark gray color neutralizes the nuances of the body lines. The interior is also fifty shades of gray. Only the scarlet instrument cluster catches the eye.
Equipment, systems, options and prices
Chinese manufacturers offer their cars in three trim levels. These are MT Comfort, Luxury and CVT Luxury. In the minimum configuration, the Lifan X50 has almost all the components that are included in the X-Ray Optima package. The advantages of the Chinese car include halogen headlights, keyless trunk opening, a rear door wiper and heated front seats. In terms of safety and comfort systems, the crossovers are absolutely similar.
As a result, you can compare prices for the minimum configuration of cars. The cheapest hatchback LADA XRay costs 628 thousand rubles. For a Chinese car they ask for 100 thousand less.

Equipment, systems, options and prices
Just recently, the tall, domestically produced Lada X-Ray hatchback left the factory floor for the first time. Now he will have to constantly prove his competitiveness, first in the domestic and then in the global car market. The fight ahead is serious. Indeed, according to the latest trends, almost every manufacturer considers it obligatory to produce a small crossover, which is included in class B. At the same time, the car must be of good quality and have a price accessible to the masses.
Lifan X 60 and Lada X-Ray
A fascinating confrontation between two diverse trends in the automotive industry. China and our homeland are going to conquer the market with their unusual method.
See:
Since 2005, Lifan The path of copying models of recognizable brands was chosen. The model for the Lifan X 60 was the world famous Japanese model Toyota Rav 4. The Chinese masters of auto plagiarism have achieved the best here. In the first steps, due to inexperience, there were a lot of defects. Beautiful, from afar, cars “crumbled” at the beginning of operation, which completely scared away buyers from Chinese cars . Even the low cost there didn’t help. Gradually, domestic manufacturers from the Middle Kingdom began to add to the reliability of cars, leaving the price at the same level. Currently, Lifan has its own consumers. Buying a huge, impressive car, almost for free, similar to a well-known brand - this option suits many, especially in the Russian car market.
Our auto industry is also developing in a very unique way. It is very reminiscent of the story of everyone’s favorite football. And large amounts of money are being invested in this matter, various projects are being built, cool, highly paid specialists are invited because of the border, but things are still there. Previous VAZ models were not listed in the global economy, but were sold within the country due to the low prices of cars and spare parts for essential repairs, as well as the sense of patriotism among Russians. A team of foreign experts that came to the management of the Togliatti auto giant in the 10s of the new century made two models, during which it was prestigious in front of the rest of the world. Lada X-Ray there

LADA XRay vs LIFAN X50: who will win?
Crossovers have become such a part of our lives that only a lazy manufacturer does not have a representative of such a popular class in its lineup. High ground clearance, the spaciousness of a minivan, and sometimes an all-wheel drive transmission - all this has become available not only for a lot of money, but also in a more mass segment. It is the representatives of the latter that will be discussed.
We pit LIFAN X50 and LADA XRAY against each other. One of them is a representative of a brand from the Celestial Empire, which is extremely popular among domestic motorists. The other is the long-awaited new product from AvtoVAZ, on which the Russian manufacturer has great hopes. Both are not bad-looking, have high ground clearance, good basic equipment and, most importantly, an affordable price.
LIFAN X50 crossover of the so-called “B” segment. Unlike its other compatriots from China, it has a brighter appearance, looking at which there is no desire to draw parallels with existing or previously existing models of Japanese or European manufacturers. Do I like him? Undoubtedly. Youthful design, protective plastic around the perimeter of the body, 15-inch wheels, roof rails - all this is fashionable and attracts a potential buyer.
What about XRAY? The car was drawn well prepared and with an eye on existing models in the segment. This means that the designer had a chance to do something extraordinary from scratch. And Steve Mattin, of course, did it. So cleverly that it was ahead of the design of some Japanese manufacturers, who years later presented their SUV with a design clearly reminiscent of the XRAY. Well, this is success and some recognition, since you are copied and imitated. Essentially I can say that the LADA looks great. A kind of troublemaker, with X-shaped design elements on all sides, mounted on spectacular 16-inch wheels, even in the initial configuration. The only thing the car lacks to make it look even more like a crossover is roof rails and protective plastic all around. And it already has a high ground clearance of 195 mm. And this is 10 mm higher than the X50.
However, looking ahead to the locomotive, I would like to note that AvtoVAZ is thinking about a more off-road version of the XRAY. So it may well be that at the upcoming Moscow International Automobile Salon we will be able to see the XRAY Cross with our own eyes, with roof rails, a body kit, and, what the hell, all-wheel drive. For the X50, all-wheel drive is not expected at all.
The 110-horsepower LADA XRAY engine is a development of the Renault Nissan Alliance. LIFAN X50 received an engine jointly developed by LIFAN and the British company Ricardo.
Comparing the configurations of opponents, we can safely say that LIFAN X50 is the favorite here. Even in the lowest configuration, which is only 10,000 rubles more expensive than the basic IKSRAY configuration, the crossover from China is equipped, as they say, to capacity. So for 559,000 rubles you get the only 1.5-liter engine in the line with a power of 103 hp. on mechanics, leather interior, air conditioning, electric windows on all four windows, audio system and all possible security systems.
What are we seeing?
X-Ray, the tallest hatchback, as the management of the enterprise positions it, the design idea of which belongs to the English autocouturier Steve Mattin. The car turned out great. Naturally, you can easily find shortcomings where spiteful critics of the Internet will fan a big fire of negativity, but the very fact that we have such a car sets us up for a positive wave - we can do it!
Lifan X 60 appeared before us in 2015 in a refreshed form. Domestic manufacturers from the Middle Kingdom decided not to bother with changes in appearance and technical features. Why deprive yourself of the goose that lays golden eggs - the X 60 is the best-selling Chinese car in our country. They added a CVT, embellished the facade, slightly changed the arched interior - another restyling of the model was released.
38-kalina_zr-02_16
Driving does not evoke any vivid emotions. One hundred and six forces are almost completely dissolved in the transmission - the VAZ robot is thoughtful during shifts. However, this is a characteristic feature of all transmissions of this type. A modern automatic or dual-clutch transmission would solve the problem, but it is fantastically expensive.
And in terms of acoustic comfort, the Cross is far from ideal: the engine is well insulated, but the “noise” of the arches and bottom is unimportant, and extraneous sounds are heard through the door seals.
In general, you won’t get any fervent drive from Kalina. But how good it is in our “directions”, be it broken asphalt or a primer! Easily “smoothes out” small irregularities and allows you to confidently rush through the pits. I wish I could “untie” the steering wheel from the road! He, like Lifan, receives noticeable shocks.
As you understand, Kalina is also not without its shortcomings, but it leaves a slightly more subtle aftertaste, which is well worth the additional payment of 20 thousand rubles. And if you take a car with a manual transmission, then the price difference with Lifan will completely disappear.
Your kind
Lifan X 60 is a worthy clone of the famous Japanese parent Toyota Rav 4. The 2021 model looks completely modern and impressive. Domestic manufacturers have changed the front part of the car. The redesigned radiator grille is now decorated with two shiny trims with a logo on one of them. The shape and location of the optical devices have changed, and the bumper has become more interesting.
See:
Lifan management wants to create a jeep in its own brainchild, however, you must agree that a front-wheel drive car is unlikely to cope with such a role, especially in our country. Dimensions Lifan
X 60: 4325 x 1790 x 1690 mm, wheelbase 2600 mm and ground clearance 179 mm. The size of the latter is also perhaps an indicator of the class of off-road vehicles.
Lada X-Ray looks great from the outside. It has its own style, is recognizable, and has a look that attracts motorists. The leitmotif in the exterior is the letter X from the name of the car, indicating that it belongs to the class of all-wheel drive crossovers. We see it on the radiator grille, body parts obtained by relief protrusions. The friendly grin of the front part of the car, obtained from the shapes of optical devices and radiator grilles, is decorated with the emblem of a proud rook, the sign of the latest generation of VAZ cars. The dimensions of the newest Lada are 4164 x 1764 x 1570 mm, the distance between the wheel axles is 2592 mm, the ground clearance is very suitable for our realities - 195 mm.
In the cabin
Lifan
continues to amuse with its gradual introduction to civilization. The quality of finishing materials in the cabin and technical equipment have become better. The Chinese tried to preserve the spirit of Japanese miniaturism in design. And they have such a situation: laconicism and ease of manipulation of the control knobs are obviously in place. The spaciousness in the cabin, both in the front and in the rear seats, is enjoyable. Chinese traditions have an effect - to create a spatial volume at the rear for passengers. Of course, a comment should be made regarding the shape of the front row seats - they are not comfortable, especially when traveling long distances, the back gets tired.
The spacious interior did not prevent the creation of a good luggage compartment: 405 liters in the standard position, 1638 liters when rear seats are transformed.
X-Ray also amused us with the interior design. You'll like the interior design - it doesn't look original enough, but there are some noteworthy finds: a multimedia system, attractive design, different pockets for small change and other elements. There is quite a lot of space in the cabin, especially in the rear. The trunk allows you to transport a sufficient amount of cargo: 376/1382 liters.
